Privacy Policy

WestEd knows that users of Carnegie Math Pathways (the “Service”) value their privacy. In that vein, our goal is to create a safe online environment of trust and community with our users. The following privacy policy discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this Site.

1. What personal information is gathered about you?

When registering for a user account in order to use the Service, you may be asked for your name and email address. In some cases this information may be provided to us by your educational institution for the creation of a user account on your behalf.

Information on user access to the site is gathered automatically when users access and use the Service. This information may include IP address, information on the user's browser and operating system version, user's choices and academic progress in the program, session time, click path analysis, and time spent on pages, and details on the user's page requests. "Data" as referred to in this policy include all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and other non-public information, including student data, metadata, and user content. WestEd only collects Data necessary to fulfill its duties and provide the services set forth in the Terms of Service for the Service. For users who have consented, Data may also be used to study ways to improve the Service.

2. How do we use the personal information we collect?

Your user account information (name and email address) and related Data are used solely to provide the Carnegie Math Pathways Service to you on behalf of the educational institution in which you are enrolled. The School or Institution owns the student Data that is generated through your use of the services. Your user account information will be shared with the instructor(s) of any courses in which you participate through the Service for the purpose of conducting the course. We may also use your email address to contact you for the purpose of providing customer support.

WestEd will ensure that all Data in its possession and in the possession of any subcontractors, or agents to which WestEd may have transferred Data are destroyed or transferred to the School or Institution, at the request of the School or Institution, when no longer need to provide the Services. WestEd may use de-identified Data for product development or improvement, research or other purposes. De-identified Data will have all direct and personal identifiers removed, including name, ID numbers, date of birth, demographic information, location information and school ID. WestEd will not attempt to re-identify de-identified information.

3. With whom is your information shared?

WestEd will not disclose any personal information to any third party without your consent, except when necessary in connection with services provided by appropriate subcontractors (e.g., an external vendor providing a service used to deliver content for a course), who will be required to comply with the confidentiality provisions of this policy, the Terms of Service, and the Data Privacy Agreement. WestEd will share the names of subcontractors with users upon request.

We reserve the right to disclose any content, records, or electronic communication of any kind (including, but not limited to, personal information or private electronic communication transmitted on the Service): (i) to satisfy any law, regulation, or government request; (ii) if such disclosure is necessary to provide the services; or (iii) to protect the data security, rights or property of WestEd or its users, sponsors, providers, or licensors. We also reserve the right to reject any order or to request additional information from any user.

3. Does the California Consumer Privacy Act apply to WestEd?

As a California Joint Power Authority, the California Consumer Privacy Act does not apply to WestEd. However, WestEd takes data privacy very seriously and is careful to build strong data security provisions into its agreements. WestEd does not sell the personal information of its website users or newsletter subscribers. If you have questions about WestEd’s privacy policies, please email infosecurity@wested.org.

4. How can you update or correct inaccuracies?

Any Data held by WestEd will be made available to the educational institution in which you enrolled in the services who can assist in correcting inaccuracies. Upon request, at help@carnegiemathpathways.org, we will give you a summary of any personal information retained by us regarding you. You may also request to modify, correct, change, or update your personal records or request that your personal records be removed from our database by emailing us at help@carnegiemathpathways.org. We will work with your educational institution in fulfilling those requests. We will only send personal records to the email address on file for the user account associated with it.

5. What about other sites linked from the Service?

Please be aware that when you are on the Service, you can be directed to other sites that we do not control. These other sites may send their own cookies,* collect data, or solicit personal information. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites.

* “Cookies” are text files sent from a site’s server and stored by your web browser on your computer’s hard drive. Cookies allow sites to personalize and save preferences. Cookies can be used to collect anonymous data and serve the user with specifically targeted ads. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually configure your browser to prevent that.

6. What about information you post on the Service?

If you post information on, or transmit information to other people through, the Service, including without limitation, on message/bulletin boards on the Service, such information will be publicly available and you have no expectation of privacy or confidentiality regarding such information.

7. How is information stored?

WestEd will store and process Data in a secure computing environment that follows industry standards for data security including administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to secure Data from unauthorized access, disclosure, and use. WestEd will maintain a written data security plan.

Your Agreement

By using this Service, you acknowledge and agree to this privacy policy. We reserve the right to change, add, or remove all or part of our privacy policy at any time by posting the changes on this page. Your continued use of the Service following the posting of changes to these terms means you accept such changes.
